The House Rules

Our thinking is guided by one simple rule:
remember the House Rules. And there are seven:

  1. Great creative begins with a great strategy.

    Our work is strategically focused. Before development begins, we distill the creative strategy to a single, simple insight. From there it's all fair game. And it's ok to be off the wall as long as it's on strategy.

  2. The consumer is not an idiot.

    People respect brands that give them respect for possessing intelligence. If you're going to interrupt a person's otherwise pleasurable consumption of media, you'd better treat them to something awesome. Also, let's stop using the terms consumer and target. We're talking with people.

  3. Brands are people too.

    They don't have a shoe size, but you can pretend they do. Brands have personalities. They have philosophies. And ideas. They might not have eye color, but they can make eye contact. Make people your priority, and you'll get the same in return.

  4. Do what gets talked about.

    This is no longer just sound advice for advertisers. It's a requisite. Fame sells, word of mouth rocks and advice from a trusted friend trumps an advertisement all day long.

  5. Truth is the most powerful tool in advertising.

    People expect advertising to sell them something. What they don't expect is truth. The truth disarms, engages, connects and endears. The truth outsells selling.

  6. Be awesome.

    If you are going to do something, do it like nothing else. When simple ideas are executed brilliantly, people become fans. This is awesomeness, and it is a very real brand differentiator.

  7. Always keep score.

    Success isn't success if it cannot be measured in a tangible way. Sales, hits, fans, press mentions. We keep score.
